John Greenleaf Whittier
"Oh the gladness of their gladness when they're glad, And the sadness of their sadness when they're sad; But the gladness of their gladness, and the sadness of their sadness, Are as nothing to their badness when they're bad"
James Matthew Barry

This old epigram about women is not by J.M. Barrie, but is of unknown origin (and was being cited as such in several places by at least 1902 - in the very midst of Barrie's career). It also hardly fits his style or attitude.
